PSS MediSpa’s Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal

More men and women in Annapolis, Easton & Prince Frederick, Maryland are choosing laser hair removal at Plastic Surgery Specialists for a smooth, hair-free skin surface. Imagine having smooth, hair-free skin without shaving, waxing, plucking, or bleaching your unwanted hair. Laser hair removal doesn’t require creams or gels, pretreatment waxing or needles. Treatments are fast, destroying hair follicles in a fraction of the time of other methods, using only the gentle power of laser light.

Laser hair removal is appropriate for many different areas of the body, but most women and men considering this simple procedure want to focus on just a few specific areas. For women, those areas are the upper lip, chin, bikini line, arms, legs, and underarms. Men’s typical treatment areas include the shoulders, the back and the beard area.

How Hair Grows

Laser hair removal often requires multiple treatments because it is only effective when hair is in the active growth stage. There are three stages of hair growth.

Anagen Phase

This is the growth phase of your hair and when laser hair removal is most effective. It is in this phase your hair contains the most amount of melanin. Hair on your head grows roughly one half inch per month and it grows faster in the summer time then the winter time.

Catagen Phase

The catagen phase follows the anagen phase and can last anywhere between 8 and 10 days. This is a short transitional phase in which hair ceases to grow.

Telogen Phase

The final phase of hair growth, during the telogen phase, hair enters a resting period. The hair is eventually released by your hair follicle during this phase and falls out. The existing follicle will remain inactive for roughly 3 months and then re-enter the catagen phase in which hair again begins to grow.

Hair follicles maintain their independence from each other and follow the stages of growth at different times which is why laser hair removal requires multiple treatments to ensure each follicle is addressed during the initial growth phase.

Laser Hair Removal available in Annapolis and Easton

Performed by Registered Nurses with over 6 years of experience in laser hair removal, the procedure involves a small hand piece that touches the skin to deliver the laser light, emitting a light spray of cooling solution onto the skin just before each laser pulse. The time duration of the procedure can vary from patient to patient depending on the amount of hair treated. Most patients will require multiple treatments, with the number depending upon skin color and coarseness of the hair.

Laser Hair Removal Recovery and Results

Following a laser hair removal procedure, a patient’s skin will become red and puffy around the treatment site, but will return to normal in a few hours. Normal activities can be resumed immediately after the procedure. Patients should avoid the sun for four to six weeks before and after treatment and apply a topical antibiotic cream or ointment. Following this treatment, you can expect to enjoy smoother skin and permanently reduced amounts of hair.

Laser Hair Removal Insurance Considerations

Laser hair removal is considered a cosmetic procedure and therefore not covered by insurance; however, hair removal for certain health issues may be covered. Find out what health issues may be involved by contacting our board-certified plastic surgeons: Dr. D. Paul Buhrer, or Dr. Christopher J. Spittler.

You Can Do Laser Hair Removal During the Summer

What are the benefits of laser hair removal? How do I choose a place to go?

Laser hair removal is today’s answer to shaving. If you are tired of the routine of shaving, waxing, or tweezing, you should consider laser hair removal. In Annapolis, Fall is the perfect time to get started to be hair-free next summer!

Laser hair removal is safe and effective for all areas of the body: face, bikini area, arms, legs, chest and back. When choosing your treatment center, make sure that you check the references and education level of the person performing the procedure.

I am a female but have facial hair like a man! What causes this and what can I do?

More women have excessive facial hair than you think. An increase in facial hair can have many causes including heredity, ethnic background and/or hormonal imbalances. A syndrome in which excessive hair growth is stimulated is called hirsutism. Most of the time hirsutism is caused by an overproduction of androgens from one of the two natural sources of androgens in women – the ovaries or the adrenal gland.

Regardless of the cause, the best way to remove facial hair (or hair anywhere on your body) is by laser hair removal. Laser hair removal by the LightSheer Diode Laser is the only FDA-approved laser for hair reduction and is available at PSS MediSpa. All laser treatments are performed by registered nurses and require little to no downtime.

Laser Hair Removal Annapolis Men

My husband has embarrassing back hair he would like removed. What do you suggest?

Maybe it’s time to consider laser hair removal. During the laser hair removal procedure, laser wavelength energy targets the melanin (color) in the hair and carbonizes it. This process destroys hair and the follicle, preventing future hair production. Laser hair removal is safe and effective for the back.

While this procedure is extremely popular right now, it is important to note that not all lasers are the same. PSS MediSpa has the most advanced laser technology available in the Luminess Light Sheer XC.
