Chin Augmentation in the Annapolis Area
Residents of towns such as Annapolis are considering chin augmentation to improve their profile as well as the overall symmetry of their face. Read on to find out why a chin augmentation or genioplasty performed by one of our board certified plastic surgeons can result in a beautiful new you.
Why Consider Getting a Chin Implant?
For those who are disappointed in the appearance of their profile or feel their facial features lack distinction, chin augmentation could be the solution. People who seek a chin implant know that a strong jaw and chin makes a face symmetrical and balanced. This leads to heightened self-confidence and self-satisfaction.
Choosing a Facial Cosmetic Surgeon
A person who opts for a chin implant should choose a surgeon who is board certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The surgeon should have experience in doing this type of procedure and be willing to answer the patient’s questions. They should not be afraid to tell the potential patient that they may not a good candidate for the surgery, either because there is nothing wrong with their chin or they have a pre-existing condition that makes the surgery inadvisable. In other words, the facial cosmetic surgeon must be qualified, experienced, skilled, knowledgeable and honest.
What Does a Chin Implant Look Like?
A chin implant is a shaped object made of Teflon, silicone or Dacron. It is custom made specifically or the patient. The surgeon makes an incision at the patient’s chin, stretches the tissue there to form a pocket then fits the implant. The implant is either sutured in place or it is put beneath the tissue of the jawbone. This surgery takes around an hour or so in our on-site operating room. It is an outpatient procedure, and after our surgeon places a protective dressing over the incision, the patient can go home and recuperate for a couple of days. The doctor prescribes pain medication to address any discomfort and takes the sutures out after five to seven days.
All patients recover from a chin augmentation differently. Our board certified plastic surgeons will individually evaluate each patient during their complimentary cosmetic consultation and prepare them for surgery and recovery.
Results Should Last Throughout the Years
A chin implant is permanent and the client should see a new, firm chin immediately following a reduction in swelling. Besides a chin implant, the patient can opt for a soft tissue filler to enhance their chin. Chin augmentation can also be performed with other facial cosmetic surgeries such as a facelift. The surgeon may recommend a combination of these procedures according to the patient’s needs.
Unfortunately, genioplasty is considered an elective surgery and isn’t covered under most medical insurance. Patients are responsible for the cost of the surgery.
