Improve the symmetry of your face with a chin augmentation

A well-defined jawline is the foundation of a balanced, attractive face, for both men and women. If you feel something just isn’t “right” with your face, and these thoughts are affecting your self-confidence, it could be your chin.

Chin augmentation surgery, also called genioplasty, improves the contours of your chin, neck and jawline, to increase the harmony, attractiveness and strength of your features.

What is a chin augmentation?

During a chin implant surgery, one of our highly trained plastic surgeons places an implant made specifically for you on your existing chin bone, to:

  • Improve the proportion between your chin and your other features
  • Correct a weak or recessed chin
  • Better define your neck and jawline
  • Reduce the appearance of a full or “double” chin.

Chin augmentation surgery improves the contours of your chin, neck and jawline.

Your Annapolis Chin Augmentation Consultation

It can be hard to clarify on your own what you want from a chin augmentation. To get the answers you need, your first step should be a consultation at our main office in Annapolis or at one of our satellite offices in Easton or Prince Frederick.

During the consultation in one of our comfortable exam rooms, we’ll review your goals and your medical history. You’ll discuss things like:

  • Your goals. Why you want a chin augmentation and the outcome you’re hoping for?
  • Your medical history. You’ll talk about things like:
    • Are you taking any prescription or nonprescription drugs and/or herbal supplements?
    • Do you smoke?
    • Have you had any previous surgeries?
  • Your body. The doctor will examine and evaluate your chin and the rest of your face.
  • The procedure. You’ll have time to ask whatever you need. We recommend writing down your questions, so you won’t forget anything.

Understanding the Chin Augmentation

Both of our surgeons perform this surgery, in our fully accredited, state-of-the-art, ambulatory surgery center in Annapolis. In this procedure, which takes about an hour (longer if you’re combining it with other procedures), a small incision is made at your chin, and the implant made of silicone is inserted. You’ll have a few stitches and will leave with a dressing over the area.

If you’re considering a chin augmentation, your next step should be a consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons.

After your Annapolis chin augmentation procedure: Recovery and Results

Everyone recovers from a chin augmentation differently. You may have some discomfort and a bit of swelling. Any pain should be easily controlled with medication, which the doctor will prescribe, and/or a cold compress. In five to seven days, you’ll return to one of our offices to have the stiches removed.

Most people are back to desk work and most other activities in a week or so. You’ll need to sleep on your back with your head elevated for a week or two after surgery to help control any swelling and protect your incisions. You’ll see your final results after about three months, when all of the swelling has subsided.

A chin augmentation is permanent. And while the aging process may affect your facial appearance, your chin contour will not change.
