As we age, lines begin to appear around our eyes and mouth and across our foreheads. Signs of a life well lived, those lines often become more prominent as we smile and frown, which is why they’re often called “dynamic wrinkles.”
Many men and women who want to reduce these visible signs of aging—frown lines, crow’s feet, worry lines, whatever you choose to call them—often consider Botox for smoother skin and a more youthful appearance.
What is Botox?
An injection of Botox in your face causes certain muscles in your face to relax. With this relaxation, other muscles pull the tissue in the area taught, significantly reducing those dynamic wrinkles.
Botox can reduce the signs of aging on the face such as frown lines, crow’s feet and worry lines.
Your Annapolis Botox Consultation
It can be hard to clarify on your own what you want from a Botox injection. To get answers, your first step should be a consultation at our main office in Annapolis or one of our one satellite offices in Easton or Prince Frederick.
During the consultation in one of our comfortable exam rooms, we’ll review your goals and your medical history. You’ll discuss things like:
- Your goals: why do you want Botox and what outcome are you hoping for?
- Your medical history and your lifestyle. You’ll talk about things like:
- Are you taking any prescription or nonprescription drugs and/or herbal supplements?
- Do you smoke?
- Have you had any previous surgeries?
- Your body. The doctor will examine and evaluate your face and the areas that could benefit from Botox.
- The procedure. You’ll have time to ask whatever you need. We recommend writing down your questions, so you won’t forget anything.
During your consultation, you can also discuss any other facial rejuvenation procedures you’re considering combining with Botox. Some patients choose to add Dermal fillers to fill in the deep lines on their cheeks and lower portions of their face, or eyelid surgery, to reduce significant excess skin and wrinkling around their eyes.
Understanding the Botox Procedure
Botox is injected into specific muscles in your face using a very fine needle. It doesn’t take much time at all, and most people don’t experience much discomfort, if any. Botox injections can be done in our Annapolis office or in one of our satellite offices by one of our highly trained doctors, as well as by our highly qualified medical staff in the PSS MediSpa.
After your Annapolis Botox procedure: Recovery and Results
Some people report minor, temporary pain around the injection site. After receiving your Botox treatment, you’ll want to keep your head elevated for a few hours and keep your activities light for the rest of the day.
A single Botox treatment lasts for approximately three to six months. The effects of the injection, including reduction in the appearance of crow’s feet, worry lines, frown lines, and the laugh lines found around your eyes and forehead, will begin to appear in about three days. The most significant results take one to two weeks.
