Skin Resurfacing

Skin resurfacing, known more commonly as laser resurfacing, is performed to remove surface imperfections and dramatically reduce lines and wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging. The result is smoother, younger looking skin.

Patient Assessment

• Fine lines and wrinkles on the face, particularly around the eyes and mouth.
• Blotchy skin or acne scars on the face.
• Computer imaging assists in discussing the desired results.

Intended Result

• A refreshed, more youthful-looking appearance.
• Fine lines and discolored skin are less noticeable.

Procedure

• Procedure is performed under local anesthesia with IV sedation in our out-patient surgery center.
• Laser light, the product of the CO2 laser, becomes a resurfacing tool, working gently to remove the sun damaged, superficial layers of skin, causing tightening of the deeper skin layers, thus smoothing out smoker lines, crows feet and wrinkles.

Recovery

• There is minimal bleeding and no sutures.
• Recovery time is ten to fourteen days. At that time makeup may be applied, redness may persist for months.

Other Procedures

• Can be used in conjunction with another cosmetic operation, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery.

Insurance Considerations

• Facial skin rejuvenation is a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by medical insurance. The patient is responsible for payment of surgical and related costs.
