Rhinoplasty in Maryland

One of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed today is nose reshaping (rhinoplasty) in Maryland. Both men and women seek nose reshaping at Plastic Surgery Specialists to improve the size and shape of the nose and to give them the facial symmetry they've been looking for.

Nose reshaping is performed to reduce or increase the size of the nose, change the shape of the tip or bridge of the nose, narrow the size of the nostrils, or change the angle between the nose and upper lip. Rhinoplasty is also performed to correct a birth defect or injury, or to help relieve certain breathing problems.

Schedule a consultation with any of our board-certified plastic surgeons today to learn more about nose surgery. Utilizing our extensive experience, surgical skill, and computer imaging, we'll discuss which rhinoplasty techniques are right for you.

Maryland Rhinoplasty Procedures

Performed in our ambulatory surgical center, a rhinoplasty is usually completed under local anesthesia with IV sedation. An overnight stay isn't necessary following this procedure.

For cosmetic reasons, incisions for a rhinoplasty are generally made inside the nose. Occasionally, small external incisions are required. Through the incisions, cartilage and bone are cut, trimmed and manipulated to reshape the nose and alter its external appearance.

Rhinoplasty Recovery and Results

After a rhinoplasty procedure, the patient will go home with a splint around the nose, which holds the bone and cartilage in its new shape. A light nasal pack may be applied to protect the septum. Inside packing is typically removed within 24 to 48 hours, while the outer splint is removed within a week. There should be minimal post-operative pain, which is easily controlled with medication. Most swelling and discoloration will subside quickly over two weeks.

Those receiving a rhinoplasty in Annapolis, Severna Park, Easton, or Prince Frederick can expect a more natural-looking nose in proper proportion to all other facial features. If a reconstructive nose surgery was performed, there will be improved breathing after the procedure is complete.

Other Facial Procedures

Rhinoplasty can be a standalone surgery or it can be performed in conjunction with other facial surgeries, such as chin implant procedures. At your consultation your surgeon will explain which surgical options are best suited to achieve your desired appearance.

Rhinoplasty Insurance Considerations

If you are receiving nose surgery for breathing problems, it may be covered by your medical insurance plan. Rhinoplasty for cosmetic purposes, however, is not covered by insurance. In this circumstance, the patient is responsible for full payment of the surgical costs.
