Annapolis Area Eyelid Surgery

As a result of aging, gravity, and even inherited traits, many men and women begin to notice the skin and muscles over their eyelids start to thin and stretch, giving the whole face a worn and tired appearance. Both women and men from around Baltimore choose eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, to remove loose fat, trim excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids, and improve the look of the eye area.

This surgery is increasingly popular with both men and women in Annapolis. Eyelid surgery is designed to correct drooping upper eyelids and / or puffy "bags" below the eyes, which can make a person look older and more tired, and can even interfere with their vision.

Men and women often choose eyelid surgery to correct puffiness in the upper or lower eyelids, hooding over the upper eyelid, or lack of contour in the eyelid as a whole. With the aid of computer imaging, our surgeons can help you accurately visualize the end result you are looking for.

Eyelid Surgery in the Baltimore Maryland Area

Blepharoplasty is usually performed with local anesthesia and IV sedation in the outpatient surgery center in our Annapolis, Severna Park, Easton or Prince Frederick, Maryland office, with no overnight stay needed. Incisions are made where the natural crease exists in the upper lid and below or behind the eyelash line in the lower lid. The excess fat and/or skin are removed and, if needed, the muscles are tightened as well.

Recovery and Results

After eyelid surgery, patients will have sutures, which are typically removed in five to seven days. As with most surgical procedures, there will be minimal post-operative discomfort that is easily controlled with medication, and swelling and bruising subside rapidly over a week or two. Our board-certified plastic surgeons will be there to instruct you and follow up with every step of your recovery.

The results of an eyelid lift will reveal a fresher, more rested appearance and the eyelids should no longer interfere with vision.

Other Facial Procedures

For complete facial rejuvenation, the following procedures may be performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery:

Please feel free to discuss any of these additional procedures with our experienced plastic surgeons.

Insurance Considerations

Eyelid surgery is normally considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by medical insurance. Each patient is responsible for payment of the surgical costs incurred. However, if your vision is hampered by excess skin above the eyes, medical insurance may cover the cost of upper eyelid surgery with additional vision testing.
