Annapolis, Maryland Breast Reduction

Many women know from experience that overly large breasts can cause chronic back, shoulder and neck discomfort. Fortunately, many Annapolis area women are choosing Plastic Surgery Specialists to help them achieve relief from the discomfort and physical limitations imposed by their breast size. With a Maryland breast reduction, women can live a more active lifestyle with less back and neck pain and more self-confidence.

Breast reduction surgery reduces the size of a woman's breasts by removing fat, glandular tissue and skin from the breast, making them smaller, lighter and firmer. Our board-certified plastic surgeons can discuss your goals and plan the right breast reduction surgery for you.

Annapolis Breast Reduction

The breast reduction procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Depending upon the size of the reduction, the procedure may be performed in our ambulatory surgical outpatient center or in a hospital outpatient center. An overnight stay is not necessary with this procedure.

Similar to a breast lift, breast reduction involves incisions that follow the contour beneath the breast and around the areola. Through the incisions, your surgeon excises tissue, fat and skin on the sides and bottom of the breast. The nipple, areola and underlying tissue are then moved upward. The skin on both sides of the breast is then tightened around the areola, lifting and reducing the breast, as well as recontouring its shape.

Breast Reduction Recovery and Results in the Baltimore Area

After a breast reduction, the patient goes home with a light dressing and a support bra to hold the breasts and help ensure your comfort while they heal. Sutures are usually invisible under the skin and will dissolve after healing is complete. There will be some post-operative pain for a few days, but this can be controlled by prescribed medication. Your surgeon will also give you a list of post-operative instructions to follow until your recovery is complete.

Women who receive a breast reduction will notice that their breasts are smaller and better proportioned to their individual physique. Their breasts will also appear to have a more attractive contour and shape. Patients typically experience a decrease in back, shoulder and neck pain almost immediately following this procedure.

Breast Reduction Insurance Considerations

Breast reduction surgery is frequently performed to relieve physical pain or discomfort and may be covered by many insurance plans. Size of the breasts, documented medical problems caused by the breasts' size, and the amount of tissue removed will determine the level of insurance reimbursement for each patient.
