Chemical Peels at PSS MediSpa
Reveal the beautiful skin you always knew you had with a chemical peel at Plastic Surgery Specialists. Our board-certified plastic surgeons offer several levels of chemical peels in Maryland for Annapolis and Severna Park women who want to restore the sun-damaged, discolored and blemished facial skin on their cheeks, forehead or neck.
Chemical peels are a safe and painless exfoliation process that removes a micro-thin layer of skin on your face. The new cells that form during the healing process produce plumper, healthier young cells – leaving your skin tighter, smoother, and more youthful looking.
Our practice features the Vi Peel, which is painless, yet produces dramatic results in just days. A single Vi Peel will significantly repair the skin for a healthier glow. The unique blend of ingredients in the Vi Peel achieves skin rejuvenation without the discomfort often associated with older and less effective peel technology. Patients do not need any special skin preparation prior to treatment and there is very little downtime. Treatments can be performed on the face as well as the hands, arms and legs.
Through a proprietary blend of 5 key ingredients (TCA, phenol, salicylic acid, Retin A and vitamin C), Vi Peel can address many skin concerns, including rough texture, age spots, freckles, melasma, hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores, lines and wrinkles, and active acne and acne scarring. The Peel also can stimulate the production of collagen deeper within the skin for a firmer and more youthful appearance. Results are usually seen in a week or less, with additional peel sessions sometimes required for maximum rejuvenation.
While chemical peels are most often associated with improving facial skin, we also offer Body Peels for rejuvenation of areas such as the chest, back, arms, hands and legs. Just like a facial chemical peel, the Body Peel improves skin texture and removes surface irregularities.
Some patients will benefit from a single Body Peel treatment while others may need a series of treatments spaced a few weeks apart for full rejuvenation. These peels are particularly popular for removing age spots, hyperpigmentation, and other evidence of sun damage. A light moisturizing cream helps to minimize peeling and maintain results.
Types of Chemical Peels at PSS MediSpa
Depending on the level of exfoliation desired, your doctor will choose a particular type of chemical peel.
- Light peels are performed with Alphahydroxy Acid (AHA), which is the mildest treatment. These peels are usually performed with glycolic, lactic or fruit acid and remove only the outer layers of the skin.
- Medium peels are performed with Trichloroacetic Acids (TCA). This particular peel is utilized to treat skin with moderate sun damage, light scarring, surface wrinkles, and skin discoloration.
- Deep peels are performed with Phenol Acid. This is the strongest peel, which treats blotchy, coarsely wrinkled skin with heavy scarring. Phenol Acid peels may also be used to treat pre-cancerous skin growths. We offer twenty different levels of chemical peels, which can be customized to each individual's personal needs.
To find out how chemical peels can improve the appearance of your face, request a consultation with any of our board-certified plastic surgeons today. We'll take the time to discuss your options, desired results, and determine an overall treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Chemical Peel Treatment
Each chemical peel takes less than one hour, although deeper peels may take several hours. Typically, light and medium chemical peels do not require anesthesia, however a deep peel may require a sedative prior to the procedure to help you relax. After the skin has been thoroughly cleansed, the peel solution will be applied for a short time then removed. Light to medium chemical peels may need to be repeated within a few weeks or months, whereas deep peels only need to be performed once.
Chemical Peel Recovery and Results
Downtime is usually not necessary after this treatment, but patients receiving a deep peel may need an extra day or two of recuperation time. Patients experience some facial swelling and redness, but that diminishes as your skin recovers. The skin's appearance should continue to improve for the next four to six weeks.
Following a chemical peel, you'll notice that your skin is firmer, smoother, and clear of blemishes. You'll exude a radiance you haven't seen in years and you'll want to look up every time you pass a mirror.
