Laser Hair Removal

Imagine having smooth, hair free skin without shaving, waxing, plucking, or bleaching your unwanted hair. Laser hair removal requires no creams or gels, no pretreatment waxing, and no needles. Treatments are comfortable, treating hair follicles in a fraction of the time of other methods, using only the gentle power of laser light.

Patient Assessment

  • Unwanted hair on any part of the body. Common areas for women are the upper lip, chin, bikini line, arms, leg, and underarms. Men's areas include shoulders, back and the beard area.

Intended Result

  • Smooth, permanently hair-free skin.

Procedure

  • Depending on the amount of hair treated, the procedure varies from patient to patient.
  • A small hand piece will be used that touches the skin to deliver the laser light, with a light spray of coolant onto the skin just before each laser pulse.
  • The degree of discomfort varies with each person, but most patients experience little.
  • Requires multiple treatments, number depends upon your skin color and coarseness of the hair.

Recovery

  • Patients' skin will become red and puffy around the treatment site, but will return to normal in a few hours.
  • Normal activities can be resumed immediately.
  • Patients should avoid the sun for 4-6 weeks before and after treatment.
  • Applying a topical antibiotic cream or ointment is recommended.

Other Procedures

  • No other procedures are normally done in conjunction with laser hair removal.

Insurance Considerations

  • Laser hair removal is considered a cosmetic procedure and therefore not covered by insurance; however, hair removal for certain health issues may be covered. Check with your carrier in those instances.
