Education - How to choose a plastic surgeon
Questions to ask
Is the plastic surgeon board-certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery?
Has the plastic surgeon completed at least five years of surgical training and a minimum of two years of plastic surgery training?
Research the doctor's qualifications and his or her surgical experience. Ask about training and educational background.
Is the plastic surgeon trained and experienced in all plastic surgery procedures, including breast, body, face and reconstruction?
Ask questions that are "procedure-specific." For
example, ask the physician how many eyelid surgeries he or she
has performed. You can even go one step further by asking how
many eyelid surgeries he or she has performed on someone your
age or skin coloring, etc.
Did the plastic surgeon complete their residency in a specialty related to cosmetic surgery?
Contact the physician's office and speak with a nurse to obtain pertinent information about the practice and the physician.
