Chin Augmentation

Chin augmentation is done to improve and enhance the facial contour and to help provide a more harmonious balance between the facial features.

Patient Assessment

• A chin which doesn't fit the face.
• A chin which adjusted slightly would enhance the overall facial appearance and proportion.
• Computer imaging assists in discussing the desired results.

Intended Result

• A more natural-looking chin in proper proportion to all other facial features.

Procedure

• The surgeon will select the proper size and shape implant to enhance the appearance.
• The implant is inserted into a pocket over the front of the jawbone.
• A small incision under the chin is made to create the pocket for the implant.

Recovery

• The patient goes home with the area of their chin taped or a garment is worn to minimize swelling and discomfort.
• Sutures in the skin will be removed in five to seven days.
• There is minimal post-operative pain that is easily controlled by medication.

Other Procedures

• Nose reshaping may be recommended with chin augmentation in order to achieve facial proportion.

Insurance Considerations

• Chin augmentation is considered cosmetic and is not covered by medical insurance. The patient is responsible for payment of the surgical costs.
