Breast Uplift
The breast uplift, technically known as a mastopexy, is a surgical procedure performed to raise and reshape sagging breast and can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. The mastopexy can also be done in conjunction with the insertion of breast implants to correct both firmness and size of a woman's breast. This procedure may be done to correct the loss of elasticity in the breast from factors such as pregnancy, nursing and the force of gravity.
Patient Assessment
- Sagging, loose breasts.
- Breasts that have lost volume and elasticity after childbearing.
Intended Result
- A more youthful, firmer appearing breast due to the higher positioning.
- To raise and reshape sagging breasts.
- To achieve symmetry following a mastectomy breast reconstruction.
Procedure
- Procedure is performed under general anesthesia administered by an M.D. anesthesiologist or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the outpatient surgery center in our office, with no overnight stay.
- Incisions are made following natural contour under breast and around areola.
Recovery
- Patient goes home with a light dressing and a support bra.
- There will be minimal post-operative pain for a few days but it is easily controlled by medication.
