Botox Injections
Botox is a therapeutic muscle-relaxing agent that works at motor nerve endings (nerves that lead to muscles). Normally, your brain sends electrical messages to your muscles so that they can contract and move. Botox works to block the transmission of the message to the muscle so that the muscle does not contract. By blocking the movement of the muscle, the skin above stays smooth and free of worry lines.
Patient Assessment
- Frown lines
- Crow's feet
- Worry lines
Intended Result
- Temporarily eliminate the appearance of crow's feet, worry lines, frown lines, and laugh lines found around the eyes and forehead.
- Reduce the signs of aging and improve overall self image.
Procedure
- Botox is injected into the selected muscles using a very fine needle. The effects usually begin in about three days and maximum benefit is reached in one to two weeks.
- The effects vary, but on average a single treatment of Botox will last for approximately three to six months. You will notice a gradual fading of the effects. At this point you may return to your doctor for your next treatment.
Recovery
- Some patients report minor but temporary discomfort from treatment.
- Head should be kept elevated for a few hours following the injections and activities kept light for that day.
Other Procedures
- Dermal fillers may be used in conjunction with Botox to fill out the deep lines between the eyebrows and on other areas of the face.
Insurance Considerations
- Botox injections are deemed cosmetic in nature and are therefore not covered by insurance.
